In many cases the best moment to fill up is now before 12:00, while prices are still at the previous day’s level.
When is fuel cheapest in Germany?
Until this change, fuel prices fluctuated several times a day. An ADAC study covering 14,000 petrol stations across Germany found that the difference between the most expensive and the cheapest moments of the day can reach 13 cents a litre.
The classic pattern (valid before 2026)
- Lowest prices: in the evening, 19:00–22:00
- Highest prices: in the morning, 6:00–9:00
How things change after 1 April 2026
The new rule shifts this pattern:
